Do Wacaco Picopresso and Staresso need hot water?

Yes. Wacaco states plainly that Picopresso does not heat water, so you need a kettle or flask of hot water for every shot. Staresso says cold water works but recommends hot water for better espresso. Heypresso 2.0 heats room-temperature water to about 92°C itself in roughly 300 seconds.

Wacaco's page puts it in capitals: "NOTICE: Picopresso does not heat up water." That is fine in a kitchen or an office pantry with a hot water dispenser, and harder in a hotel room or at a campsite.

  3. Add ground coffee or a small or large capsule.
  4. Press brew and watch the extraction timer.
  5. Flush with the brew button or use self-clean.

  3. Pre-infuse for about 8 seconds.
  4. Pump to 9-12 bar during extraction (Wacaco's guide).
  5. Knock out the puck and rinse.

Staresso Mirage (SP300 Plus)

  1. Boil water.
  2. Dose 18-24g of ground coffee.
  3. Fill with up to 180ml of water.
  4. Press with your palm via the top valve.

Which is easiest to use?

Heypresso 2.0 is easiest: fill the tank, long-press to heat, add coffee and press brew, with an extraction timer to guide you. Staresso uses a palm-press valve. Picopresso takes the most skill and effort, because you grind, tamp and pump by hand, and Wacaco says peak pressure needs about 13 kg of force.

Which gives you more control over the shot?

Picopresso gives the most control, with a naked portafilter and a standard 52mm, 18g basket so you can see and adjust every shot. Staresso takes 18-24g of coffee. Heypresso 2.0 fixes temperature and pressure for you but shows extraction time, and its 16g basket brews a proper double shot.

Can you use capsules?

Of these three, Heypresso 2.0 is the one that takes capsules out of the box: ground coffee, small capsules such as Nespresso Original, and large capsules. Wacaco Picopresso and Staresso Mirage (SP300 Plus) take ground coffee only. Staresso's Classic and Travel models are 2-in-1, and Wacaco's Nanopresso uses capsule adaptors sold separately.

If you want a 3-in-1 portable espresso pod machine for the office, Hiblendr's product page lists Nespresso Original pods, Starbucks capsules, large coffee capsules and ground coffee for Heypresso 2.0. Nespresso Vertuo capsules are not supported.

"The machine is easy to use and easy to clean. What I really like is that it's a 3-in-1 coffee machine, which makes it very convenient." Yuanna Noordin, Heypresso 2.0 review on hiblendr.com.my

Which is best for travel and camping?

Picopresso weighs just 350g and needs no charging, but you must find hot water. Heypresso 2.0 weighs 680g and heats its own water, which helps at a campsite or hotel without a kettle; it makes 3-5 heated coffees per charge. Staresso also weighs 680g and needs hot water.

Hiblendr recommends packing Heypresso 2.0 in your carry-on and checking with your airline before you fly. The Heypresso Protective Case (RM89) keeps the machine and capsules together.

Heypresso 2.0 review: strengths and trade-offs

Strengths

  • Heats water itself to about 92°C, so it works with no kettle.
  • 3-in-1: ground coffee, small capsules and large capsules.
  • Up to 20 bar, a 16g double-shot basket and an 80ml tank.
  • Extraction timer, temperature indicator and self-clean button.
  • RM429 with a 1.5-year warranty handled by Hiblendr in Malaysia.

Trade-offs

  • 3-5 heated shots per charge (up to 50 with pre-heated water).
  • 680g, about twice the weight of Picopresso.
  • No pressure or temperature adjustment, so less hands-on control.
  • Only the tank and capsule holder can be rinsed; keep the motor dry.

"Enjoying it and the fact that you can use 3 types of coffee in it, grounds, small and large pods, which saves money and is super convenient." Duncan Ross, Heypresso review on hiblendr.com.my

An honest note from another reviewer: "Bang for buck. Does what it meant to do. One minor thing that i find unappealing is the shape."

Price, warranty and where to buy in Malaysia

How much do they cost in Malaysia?

As of October 2026, Heypresso 2.0 is RM429 (regular RM499) on hiblendr.com.my. Wacaco Picopresso is RM679 at authorised stockist Storming Gravity but was sold out when we checked. Staresso lists the SP300 Plus at US$99.90 on its own site; we couldn't verify an official Malaysian price.

Which has the best warranty?

Wacaco gives Picopresso two years, the longest here. Staresso states 18 months. Heypresso 2.0 from hiblendr.com.my has one year plus an extra six months, with local claims in Malaysia and an optional HeypressoCare+ extension from RM34.90. Check who handles claims locally before buying any imported machine.

Heypresso 2.0 is also available with 0% instalments over 3-4 months through Atome or Grab.

Frequently asked questions

Should I choose Heypresso 2.0 or Wacaco Picopresso?

It depends on what you value. Choose Heypresso 2.0 for convenience: it heats water, takes capsules and brews with one press, at RM429. Choose Picopresso for hands-on espresso control; it is much lighter at 350g and carries a two-year warranty, but it needs hot water and real effort to pump.

Can I use hot water from a flask in Heypresso 2.0?

Yes. Pouring in pre-heated water skips most of the heating wait and saves battery: Hiblendr states up to 50 brews per charge with pre-heated water, compared with 3-5 when Heypresso 2.0 heats room-temperature water itself. An insulated bottle of hot water is a handy way to stretch a charge at work or on trips.

How hard is it to pump a Picopresso?

It takes some strength and practice. Wacaco says reaching its maximum 18 bar needs force equal to about 13 kg, and recommends holding Picopresso with two hands. Its guide suggests pre-infusing for about 8 seconds and keeping 9-12 bar during extraction, so expect a learning curve before shots are consistent.

Can Staresso use Nespresso capsules?

Not the Staresso Plus (SP300). Staresso's own FAQ says the Plus takes coffee grounds only, while its Classic and Travel models are two-in-one and accept capsules. If you want capsules and ground coffee in one portable machine that also heats water, Heypresso 2.0 takes both small and large capsules.

Which portable espresso maker is best for the office?

Heypresso 2.0 suits most offices because it needs no kettle: fill it with room-temperature water, heat, and brew at your desk, then use the self-clean button. Manual presses work well if your pantry has a hot water dispenser and you don't mind pumping and cleaning out grounds at the sink.

How do I clean Heypresso 2.0 compared with a manual press?

Heypresso 2.0 has a self-clean button: add water and press it, then rinse only the tank and capsule holder and keep the motor dry. Manual presses such as Picopresso and Staresso have no electronics, so you can take them apart and rinse every part, but you clear out the coffee puck by hand.

Does Heypresso 2.0 come with a warranty in Malaysia?

Yes. Heypresso 2.0 bought on hiblendr.com.my includes a one-year manufacturer's warranty plus an extra six months, counted from delivery, with claims handled by Hiblendr in Malaysia. You can extend it with HeypressoCare+ from RM34.90. Buy from Hiblendr's own sites, official stores or authorised retailers to stay covered.

How we compared

We took Picopresso and Staresso specs from wacaco.com and staresso.com, and the Malaysian Picopresso price from authorised stockist Storming Gravity, all checked on 22 October 2026. We show a US-dollar price for Staresso because we couldn't verify an official Malaysian one. Figures are brand-stated; we didn't lab-test the machines. Hiblendr makes Heypresso 2.0, so we have listed its trade-offs too. Hiblendr Sdn Bhd is a Kuala Lumpur company with 60,000+ customers.
