For most people, our top pick is Heypresso 2.0: at RM429 it heats its own water, brews at up to 20 bar and takes ground coffee, small capsules and large capsules, with a 1.5-year warranty from hiblendr.com.my. Choose OutIn Mino for faster heating, or a manual Picopresso if you would rather pump by hand.
We compared seven portable espresso machines sold in Malaysia, self-heating and manual, using each brand's official site or an authorised Malaysian stockist. For a head-to-head on self-heating vs manual, see Heypresso 2.0 vs Wacaco Picopresso vs Staresso, or browse all portable coffee machines.
Hiblendr makes Heypresso 2.0. Specs for other machines come from their official sites or authorised Malaysian stockists; we haven't lab-tested them.
Four terms to know
- Self-heating: the machine heats room-temperature water itself, so no kettle is needed.
- Manual (hand-pump): you build pressure by hand and pour in hot water yourself; no battery.
- Bar: the pressure pushing water through the coffee. Espresso is usually brewed at around 9 bar, and brands quote their pump's maximum.
- Small vs large capsules: small means Nespresso Original-size pods; large means bigger pods.
What is the best portable espresso machine in Malaysia?
Heypresso 2.0 is our top pick for most people. It is the lowest verified Malaysian price of the self-heating machines we compared (RM429), it heats water to about 92°C without a kettle, brews at up to 20 bar and takes ground coffee, small capsules and large capsules. Each rival below still has a clear "best for".

OutIn Mino heats fastest and Pixapresso holds the most water, while the manual machines skip the battery and need hot water.

Self-heating or manual: which portable espresso maker should you buy?
Buy self-heating if you want espresso anywhere without a kettle: add room-temperature water and press a button. Buy manual if you always have hot water, want the smallest kit and don't mind pumping. Manual machines need no charging, but self-heating ones such as Heypresso 2.0 are easier at a desk, hotel or campsite.
Self-heating machines trade weight and charging for convenience: Heypresso 2.0, OutIn Nano and OutIn Mino all weigh 670-685g. A portable coffee maker that heats its own water suits an office without a pantry kettle, a hotel room or a morning at a Janda Baik campsite.
Manual portable espresso press: who it suits
Picopresso, Nanopresso and Staresso are for people who enjoy the ritual and always have hot water nearby. Picopresso uses a standard 52mm, 18g basket for dialling in; Nanopresso is the smallest at 336g; Staresso holds the most coffee (18-24g). All three need a kettle or flask, and Wacaco says plainly that "Picopresso does not heat up water".
How long does a portable espresso machine take to heat water?
Between about two and a half and five minutes, by brand figures. OutIn Mino states 149 seconds for 50ml, Wacaco Pixapresso about 180 seconds for 35ml at 88°C, OutIn Nano about 200 seconds and Heypresso 2.0 about 300 seconds to 92°C. Starting with hot water skips most of the wait.
| Machine | Brand-stated heat time | Condition stated |
|---|---|---|
| OutIn Mino | 149 s | 50ml room-temperature water to 93.3°C |
| Wacaco Pixapresso | About 180 s | 35ml to 88°C, "under certain conditions" |
| OutIn Nano | About 200 s | "Under stated test conditions" |
| Heypresso 2.0 | About 300 s | To 92°C |
To be straight with you, Heypresso 2.0 is the slowest of the four to heat. In return it heats a full 80ml tank and shows heating progress on its temperature indicator, so you know when it is ready.

How many espressos do you get per charge?
It depends on whether the machine heats the water. Heypresso 2.0 makes 3-5 shots per charge when it heats and extracts, depending on water volume and temperature, and up to 50 when you add hot water so it only extracts. OutIn Nano and Wacaco Pixapresso state about five from cold water and over 200 with hot water. Carry hot water to get more shots.
Heating water is what drains the battery. Heypresso 2.0 has a 7500mAh battery and charges by USB-C from a laptop, power bank or car. OutIn doesn't state a shot count for Mino. An insulated water bottle of hot water is the easy way to stretch a charge on a trip.

Which capsules work in a portable espresso machine?
Most self-heating models take ground coffee and Nespresso Original-size capsules, including OutIn Nano, OutIn Mino and Wacaco Pixapresso. Heypresso 2.0 also takes large capsules, so one machine covers ground coffee, small capsules and large capsules. Manual Picopresso and Staresso Plus take ground coffee only; Nanopresso needs adaptors sold separately.
Hiblendr's product page lists Nespresso Original pods, Starbucks capsules, large coffee capsules and ground coffee for Heypresso 2.0, and recommends small espresso capsules for the best results. Nespresso Vertuo capsules are not supported. Check the capsule chart on the product page before you stock up.

- Buying a gift: see our Christmas gift ideas and gift ideas under RM500.

Can you bring a portable espresso machine on a plane?
Usually in hand luggage, because these machines contain lithium batteries. Hiblendr recommends packing Heypresso 2.0 in your carry-on and checking with your airline before you fly, as rules and staff decisions vary. Empty the water tank, pack ground coffee or capsules separately and charge it when you arrive.
The Heypresso Protective Case (RM89, regular RM99) keeps the machine and capsules together in your bag.
How much does a portable espresso machine cost in Malaysia?
From about RM359 to RM899 on official sites and authorised stockists, as of October 2026. Wacaco Nanopresso starts at RM359, Heypresso 2.0 is RM429 (regular RM499), OutIn Nano is RM699, Wacaco Picopresso is RM679 and OutIn Mino is RM899. Marketplace prices vary, and warranty may not cover unofficial sellers.
Heypresso 2.0 is available with 0% instalments over 3-4 months through Atome or Grab. Add-ons: the Heypresso Coffee Stand (RM59, regular RM79), the Protective Case (RM89) and HeypressoCare+ warranty extension from RM34.90. Hiblendr's 30-day money-back guarantee has conditions: ask within 30 days of receiving the item, unused and in its original packaging with proof of purchase; it excludes the Hiblendr30 campaign (see the refund policy).
What should you look for in a portable espresso machine?
Check five things: whether it heats water, which coffee it takes (ground, small or large capsules), how many shots you get per charge, the basket size for double shots, and a warranty you can claim in Malaysia. Pressure matters less than brands suggest; most portable machines quote 18-22 bar.
Frequently asked questions
Does Heypresso 2.0 make real espresso?
Yes. Heypresso 2.0 pushes water through finely ground coffee or a capsule at up to 20 bar, which is enough pressure for espresso with crema. Its 16g basket fits a double shot, and the built-in extraction timer and temperature indicator help you pull a consistent shot at your desk or on the road.
Which capsules can I use in Heypresso 2.0?
Heypresso 2.0 works with Nespresso Original pods, Starbucks capsules, large coffee capsules and ground coffee, according to Hiblendr's product page. Hiblendr recommends small espresso capsules for the best results. Nespresso Vertuo capsules aren't supported, so check your capsule's size and type against the chart on the product page.
How do I clean Heypresso 2.0?
After each use, press the brew button without a capsule to flush out coffee residue, or use the self-clean button. Rinse only the water tank and capsule holder with water and keep the motor dry. Wipe the outside with a damp cloth. Don't put the machine under the tap or in water.
How much water does Heypresso 2.0 hold?
The tank holds 80ml, with markers inside: fill to 30ml for a classic espresso shot or to 80ml for a longer coffee. Heypresso 2.0 can heat that water itself to about 92°C in roughly 300 seconds, or you can pour in hot water to brew faster and save battery.
Can I make a latte with a portable espresso machine?
Yes. Brew a shot, then add milk you have warmed, frothed or poured cold over ice for an iced latte. Heypresso 2.0 doesn't froth milk, so use a handheld frother or shake warm milk in a jar. A 16g double shot gives enough strength for a regular-sized latte.
What warranty does Heypresso 2.0 have?
Heypresso 2.0 bought from hiblendr.com.my comes with a one-year manufacturer's warranty plus an extra six months, starting from the delivery date. You can add HeypressoCare+ warranty extension from RM34.90. Warranty covers purchases from Hiblendr's own sites, official marketplace stores and authorised retailers, not unofficial sellers.
Where can I see a Heypresso before buying?
Hiblendr has a store on LG2 at Sunway Pyramid. Contact Hiblendr before you go to check that Heypresso 2.0 is on display and in stock that day. You can also buy online at hiblendr.com.my, with free shipping and 0% instalments over 3-4 months through Atome or Grab.
